Imagine yourself on top of a mountain, taking a breath of pure mountain air with no pollutants, knowing there are no other people as far as you can see in any direction. Watch a grizzly bear dig for marmots in its natural habitat and a cow and calf moose browse in crystal clear lakes.

There is nothing like coming back to camp at the end of the day to a wholesome home cooked meal the likes of which you wonít find in any restaurant. Tonight you'll go to bed...feeling wondrously tired and looking forward to sleeping like you have not slept in years.

With over 35 years experience in guiding people safely into the wilderness areas of Central British Columbia, we feel we can offer you a truly unique outdoor adventure. At Wolverine Mountain this is not just a job to us but a way of life that we would like to share with you.

Arrival

Guests may arrive on the morning of the first day of the trip, but are welcome and encouraged to arrive the afternoon or evening before. We have a couple of beautifully rustic log cabins located at our Kruger Lake camp that will enable you to relax and get acquainted with us and the discuss the adventure on which you are about to embark.

The night before departure, we have a hearty home cooked meal and a good night's sleep to prepare you for the days to come.

Day 1

Today will be spent at Kruger Lake where we will go on a short ride to give you a chance to get the feel of the saddle and get acquainted with your horse. We keep canoes and a rowboat at the lake so that if you wish you may go fishing or just enjoy the scenery and wildlife.

Kruger Lake is a beautiful spot, with snow-capped mountains towering in the background. Moose are commonly seen in the mornings and evenings along the lakeshore as are beaver, otter, eagles and other wildlife.

The background music is normally provided by a local music group...the Kruger Lake loons!

Day 2

Today we head for the high country. All the horses must be groomed and saddled up, then all the camping gear, clientís personal gear and food loaded on the packhorses.

From Kruger Lake we ride for 1.5 hours on an abandoned and deactivated logging road, which takes us up Littlefield Creek. Here we leave the road and wind our way up the mountainside through the heavy spruce forest.

Two hours after leaving the road we reach our tent camp at Dominion Creek Meadows. This camp is situated on a scenic sub-alpine meadow at an elevation of 4900 ft. (1495m). Moose, caribou and mule deer are often seen crossing this meadow as is the occasional grizzly or wolf.

Day 3

This morning we have a six-hour ride ahead of us. After bringing in the horses, saddling them and packing up camp, we continue our climb upward until we reach the first summit at 6000 ft. (1830m). This is the point at which the scenery is dominated by one craggy peak that gives the impression that you could reach out and touch it. This is Mt. Cochran and it towers at 8000 ft. (2440m). It is named after Dean Cochran who guided in this country the first half of the 1900ís. He called the mountain Mt. Majestic and once you see it from a distance youíll know why. Behind Mt. Cochran stands 7800 ft. (2377m) Mt. Cushman, named after my father, Frank Cushman who passed away in 1994.

After a brief rest and photo session we continue following alpine ridges and slopes until we make our final ascent to our camp on an alpine plateau. Our camp is next to a small but deep crystal clear lake at an elevation of 5800 ft. (1770m) that is on the edge of the timberline. It is impossible at this camp to look across the campfire in any direction without looking at breathtaking mountain scenery.

Days 4 and 5

We will spend these two days sightseeing out of this camp and there are definitely lots to see. There are alpine meadows to ride and if you wish mountains to climb. Although Mt. Cochran is formidable looking, it is surprisingly easy to climb. The wildlife in this area includes caribou, grizzly, mountain goat, moose, mule deer, wolf, wolverine, coyote, hoary marmot and lots of smaller animals and birds.

Day 6

Today we pack up camp and ride down one of the tributaries of Haggen Creek to our Haggen Creek camp. This takes us through a beautiful valley to a camp which offers you a few of the comforts of home.A wall tent for larger groups plus two all weather cabins, bunk beds, a well stocked kitchen and a resident deer family that usually serves as a greeting committee.

Day 7

We pack up for the last time this morning, following a hearty breakfast....then head up another tributary of Haggen Creek. We ride through the meadows surrounding Moose Lake and up over one more mountain. Soon we arrive back at Kruger Lake where weíll enjoy a big meal and one last big campfire together.
